Sofia

Sofia, a flower named after the city I live in :) First you work the "legs" and then crochet around each leg to form the petals.

Sofia Pattern

Step 1 - Legs:

Ch 6, skip 1st ch from hook, sc into each of next 4 ch, ss into last ch. This last ch is your home stitch.

*ch 5, skip 1st ch from hook, sc into each of next 4 ch, ss into home*

Repeat from * to * 4 times.

You can stop right here for a simple center, weaving this end into the back of the 1st leg and around the middle - or work step 2 to add some petals to the middle.

Step 2 - Center Petals:

To work the petals keep your working yarn at the back of the piece and your hook in front.

First petal:

With your hook across the front of the 1st leg, grab the yarn that's behind it and ch 3:

Yarn behind first leg, hook in front
3 ch worked, the 1st ch being worked around the 1st leg

Work a ss into home, which is now the center of the piece. First petal finished!

Your first leg lies to the right, and we will work around the 2nd leg just under the hook in a moment:

1st petal finished and ready to work 3 chain between 2nd and 3rd legs

The next five petals:

Yarn at the back of the 2nd leg and hook still in front; working between the second and third legs, ch 3, ss into home - 2nd petal worked.

Yarn at the back of the 3rd leg; working between the third and fourth legs, ch 3, ss into home - 3rd petal worked.

Continue around the legs until you have 6 petals. Count them to check you have worked six, as it's ever so easy to only work five and then wonder where the last one got to ;)

Once you've made your final ss into home, tie off.

Weave this end into the back of the flower - I thread it through just next to where I've worked the ss.
